    Shark Fin Camp

Photo- P VelisekSo, where have we been? Good question. We have been stranded offline. Apocalyptic storms have had the power on again off again. The internet is its usual self, meaning I am online now, but might be by the end of this post. And then we have been busy skiing pow and working hard.

To elaborate a little, working hard has entailed camping out under a million stars, actually make that a billion, getting up early and sending Colin, Forrest and Pete on their merry way to ski incredible lines while Will and I stamp our feet in camp trying to keep warm until the sun comes up.

To skip back maybe a week, this post highlights the Shark Fin trip we did. Since then we have spent another few nights in an even more rugged zone a days hike from Gulmarg, but the Shark Fin was a good warm up.

While patrol threw bombs, the boys threw down in the paper trees. Photo- P Velisek

Last week it snowed a bunch, again, and we gambled on getting good shots ski touring in the trees instead of waiting in line all day for the gondola to open. The bet paid off, with us getting some stunning shots in the paper trees with billowing, crystalline snow. We packed overnight gear in the hope of getting the last gondola up to the top if it opened and camping out to get the early light on the token alpine, steep skiing venue in Gulmarg--The Shark Fin.

We set up camp on the summit of Apherwat and it was incredible. Need I say more.

The next day we rose early and the boys set off for the top of "The Fin" in perfect morning light. Pete dropped a line from the summit, Colin stepped up to a committing line with plenty of blind roll overs and exposure and forrrest destroyed an aesthetic spine in the sun.

Colin enjoying less exposure and more pow.

The crew slayed two lines before the light disappeared and gondola opened allowing the shredders in Gulmarg a chance to get to it. The Sharks Fin is the place to be once the weather goes blue and stability is good. We weren't the only ones with our eyes on the prize, but thankfully our plan paid off and we got the place to ourselves with incredible light.

    Mission accomplished.

Coming soon, a day building bombs with the Indian Army and Gulmarg ski patrol, and the ultra epic basecamp trip to Sunshine Peak Cirque.

You can't write too much - that's for sure! Crossing my fingers the "internet holds" when you have time to document.
I'm loving every detail...as long as you're safe!

Just found your webs site and was blown away. We (5 of us) were hicking up from the last lift when you were all skinning up with all your kit for the night out. We turn right at the summit and went over a took one of the last un touch lines skiers left on the main ski area. It was sweet in the last of the good light, but nothing compared to the shots you got. The trainer looks amazing and can not wait to see the full film.

Hope the summer is not dragging too much
